Esopus Garage Conversion
This project is my own home. The construction is ongoing; it is an open ended work in progress. At its heart, it is the conversion of a simple, 30’ x 35’ concrete block garage building into a home. Beginning with only a bathroom and an open space, the project was initially planned into a variety of zones: the front half of the garage became kitchen, dining, and living space, while the back half was split into two lofts, one high, one low. The lofts are sleeping spaces, and underneath are closets, storage, and utilities. A primary objective was remaining true to the materiality of the garage space, with durable, simple palette of materials, emphasizing carbon-negativity and re-use wherever possible.
